The Tragic Demise of All Humanity: A Cursed Fate

Lesson:

Introduction:

To understand why the internal and external states are vulnerable, we must go back to the beginning—to the Garden of Eden, where man first fell.

The Fall of Man

In Eden, Adam and Eve walked in harmony with God.
Their internal and external states were pure, undefiled, and aligned with their Creator.

But temptation entered into the equation.

• Eve trusted her senses: she saw the fruit was pleasing to the eye.
• She entertained a thought planted by the serpent: “Did God really say?”
• She acted outwardly, and Adam joined her.

The result:

The curse.
Death entered the flesh.
Desires of the flesh evolved through our 5 senses.

The Curse of the Flesh

Because of sin, the external state—the body—was cursed to die. From dust we came, and to dust we return (Genesis 3:19).

This curse affects the internal state as well. Paul writes:

“The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God;

it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.” (Romans 8:7)

The Flesh - (negative forces use the flesh in manipulating you)
(the flesh is Lucifer's greatest ally)

1. The flesh pulls the heart toward sin.
2. It craves what is forbidden.
3. It resists the Spirit.
4. Not because it wants too but because our flesh became cursed when we chose in the garden, not to listen to our creator)

Know this and be ready to counter the flesh on everything contrary to scripture.

The Enemy Exploits the Curse

Satan uses the weakness of the flesh as his greatest ally.
Through the senses, he can create appetites and then addictions.

He lures us away from God through our senses which in turn leads to desires.

For Example:

• Hunger becomes gluttony.
• Desire becomes lust.
• Need becomes greed.
• Loneliness becomes despair.

Each of these are footholds, ways for the enemy to turn the curse of the flesh into a chain of bondage.
After he has this in place, he will then implement the final attribute God installed in him.

Tempter:

He will whisper minor thoughts to you, testing you, watching you. When he finds his foothold, he will then tempt you 24/7 if you let him. He will do this until you give in or until you locate truth, then stand on truth and rebuke everything that is not from Christ.

Accuser:

He will accuse you of anything and everything, having you believe that the thoughts were your and your alone, which in fact they all originated from him.

Affliction:

He will manipulate you to perform affliction on yourself or others.

The Reality of Death

Paul says plainly: “The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23)

The flesh is destined for decay. But while the external state is cursed, the internal state can be redeemed. In Christ, the Spirit renews what sin has corrupted.

Hope in Christ

Though the curse of the flesh is real, Jesus entered into it to break its power. He died in the flesh, rose in victory, and now offers eternal life to all who believe.

“If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Romans 8:11)

Application Points:

• Reflection: What part of your desires of the flesh is most vulnerable — appetite, pride, or loneliness?
• Action: Fast one meal or habit this week. Train your flesh to submit to the Spirit.
• Prayer: Thank God that though your internal and external state is corrupted, your soul is redeemed in Christ.

Closing Thought

The Fall of Man cursed the flesh, and the enemy exploits it. But in Christ, the Spirit restores your internal state and gives victory over Satan’s temptation and the weakness of the body.

Even though the curse of the flesh is real, hope in Christ is greater.
